I believe the story should go on like this:  

Stanley runs out the school to find his friend and tell him what he missed. Maybe he would know what Mrs Given meant. He ran to the mall because this is his friend usually hanged out. As he reached the bench where his friend usually sat, there he was laying still on the bench, not breathing, not even blinking. Stanley runs to his friend's body, crying for help until the mall cop finds him there and calls the ambulance. When Stanley's friend reaches the hospital it was too late. The doctors explained how his friend died from lung cancer and if someone was there to save him in time he would still be alive. Then Stanley said, "Only if I was there," "I could have saved him," "It's just not fair!" "So, this is the meaning of life."
